I. SAFETY POLICIES

The staff is informed of safety rules, special hazards, and commonly occurring accidents. They receive detailed instruction on evacuation procedures, use of fire extinguishers, and how to report an accident. There is one staff member on duty at ail times who has a current first aid CPR certificate.

A. Prevention

1. Fighting is not allowed; running and throwing of objects are not allowed except as a supervised part of the curriculum, ie. physical education.
   Knives, guns, or other weapons (real or toy) are not allowed on campus and will be confiscated.
2. All poisonous substances are stored out of reach.
3. The locations of the fuse box, main electrical power switch, and the water main valves are known to each staff member. The electricity shall be cut off at the main switch in the event of electrical fire or tornado warning.
4. At any time the children leave the building as a group, they are required to walk in an orderly fashion and are accompanied by the staff and other adults if deemed necessary.

B. Emergencies

1. Fire
   The School conforms to all fire regulations as designated by the State Fire Marshal. A fire evacuation plan and alternate is drawn and posted in th school. The 911 emergency number and the exact address of the building are posted by each telephone. Fire drills are held quarterly. The fire alarm system, emergency power pack lights, and fire extinguishers are checked yearly for proper function. All staff members know how to use the fire extinguishers.
2. Inclement Weather.
   A battery-operated NAOO weather radio is at the front desk and on at all times. In case of severe weather, staff will tune to the local radio station for weather information.
3. Power Failure
   Flashlights in working order are kept in each classroom. Power Pack emergency lights are installed to light each exit.

II. HEALTH POLICIES

1. Health Care Summary
   Each child is required to have on file a health statement, which includes a record of up to date immunizations and the signature of the child's source of medical care. If a child's health care summary is not complete at the time of enrollment or within 30 days after enrollment, the child will be excluded from the school.
   
   
2. Exclusion of Sick Child
   No child who arrives noticeably ill, with a rash, or with a fever shall be admitted for that school day. Should a child become ill during the day, he/she will be isolated with adult supervision until a parent or authorized person arrives to take the child home.
   
   In the event a child contracts a communicable disease and exposes the other children, notice of such exposure will be posted, and parents will be notified when they pick up their children. The contagious child will nol be allowed to return to school until the period of contagion has passed.
   
   
3. Emergency Authorization
   The school must have on file for each child a signed Permission for Health Care authorizing emergency care and transfer of medical records to the local hospital. Emergency numbers for reaching the parent or guardian and another authorized person shall also be on file.
   
   
4. Emergency Procedures
   At least one staff member on duty at all times has first aid training through an accredited course. All other staff members are trained in emergency procedures through annual in-service training.
   
   The child's parent, guardian, or authorized person shall be notified
   immediately in the event of a serious accident or illness requiring emergency care. First aid shall be administered by a qualified staff member.
   
   The 911 Emergency Number and address are posted by each telephone The local ambulance service shall provide emergency transportation; the local hospital shall provide emergency care.
   
   
5. Medications
   Medications are kept in a locked cupboard out of reach of the students.
   
   Any medication (including Tylenol or Advil) will NOT be administered without permission from the parent.
   
   Any prescription medication to be administered by the school staff MUSI be in its original, labeled container. A Medication Permission-Dosage Form must be signed by the parent authorizing its administration.
